May Mobility Expands Fleet to 50 Autonomous Shuttles Across Ann Arbor
May Mobility, the Ann Arbor-based autonomous vehicle startup, announced today that it will expand its local fleet to 50 autonomous shuttles by the end of Q3 2026. The expansion comes as part of a landmark partnership with the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) to integrate self-driving microtransit into the city's public transit network.
The new vehicles will operate along fixed routes connecting the University of Michigan's North Campus to downtown Ann Arbor, with additional on-demand service covering the Research Park Drive corridor. "Ann Arbor has always been our proving ground, and this expansion reflects both the maturity of our technology and the trust this community has placed in us," said May Mobility CEO Edwin Olson during a press event at the company's headquarters on Depot Street.
The expansion will create approximately 35 new jobs in Ann Arbor, including fleet operations managers, remote vehicle supervisors, and software engineers. May Mobility currently employs around 200 people at its downtown headquarters and testing facility near Briarwood Mall.
City officials have praised the move as a step toward reducing traffic congestion along the State Street and Plymouth Road corridors. "This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking infrastructure investment that keeps Ann Arbor at the forefront of mobility innovation," said Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor. The first new shuttles are expected to begin service in July 2026.
