Google Ann Arbor Hiring 200+ Cloud Engineers in 2026 Expansion
Google has announced plans to hire more than 200 cloud engineering and AI research positions at its Ann Arbor office throughout 2026, marking one of the largest single-year hiring pushes at the Traverwood Drive campus since it opened in 2006. The expansion focuses on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, Vertex AI tooling, and enterprise security products.
The Ann Arbor office, which currently houses approximately 500 employees, has emerged as a strategic hub for Google's cloud business. "The concentration of talent coming out of U-M's computer science and electrical engineering programs is unmatched in the Midwest," said Lisa Nguyen, Google Ann Arbor's site lead. "We're seeing incredible demand for cloud services, and Ann Arbor gives us access to the engineers who can build the next generation of infrastructure."
The hiring initiative spans multiple experience levels, from new graduates to principal engineers, with roles in distributed systems, machine learning operations, and cloud security. Google has also expanded its partnerships with the University of Michigan, sponsoring three new graduate research fellowships in cloud computing and offering an expanded internship program for the summer of 2026.
Local real estate observers note that Google's expansion, combined with growth at other major tech employers, continues to drive demand for housing in the Traverwood and North Campus areas. The company is also investing in transportation improvements, including a new shuttle service connecting downtown Ann Arbor to the Traverwood campus via Huron Parkway.
